there is proof in the north where there are fields of cooled magma

the iron in the lava had been effected by the magnetic pull and left very distinct trails in the lava as it cooled

and if you strip away layers of rock you can see that at some periods in time the iron was being pulled at a perpindicular angle(right angle) to other layers

suggesting that a few million years ago our north and south magnetic poles have actually been shifted, and this has happened a few times

they say that a few days before the asian earth quake the magnetic pole shifted 2 feet
