When are you moving to Hawaii?
Mt. Haleakalā (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Haleakala) is the place for you.

for your first attemp find a place online like eftonscience (http://www.escience.ca) and look for a universal digital camera mount, or one that will allow you to screw the camera right to it. I use this one (http://www.khanscope.com/accessDetails.cfm?productID=912)
the next step up is a ccd camera specific for amature astronomy, the best and most afordable is the Starlight Xpress line of cameras $1400-6000. You would also want at that time to replce your mount with a Lostmandy 11 or bigger.
hope your getting many hours of enjoyment
