you will have to have a second partition on the same C drive
or a different drive , like D or what ever
then just do a regular type install choosing the partition or drive you want to install to
and it will just duel boot

when you boot a boot manu will pop up asking what OS you want to boot

make sure the 98 machine has a good supply of ram
XP needs more to run fast
a 98 machine may not have much

if you're thinking about upgrading and using the existing drivers, no, it won't work. XP drivers are all different from 98 drivers.

Yes, you'll have to format the drive and fresh install XP for it to work properly.

I hope this is what you were asking

I want to upgrade a former fucked up computer & just install XP on it.

I guess I would need to keep, find out & probably reinstall the existing drivers on it.

I have no use for two OS's. One is bad enough.

Since I finally straightened it out, I could just use 98 & it would be OK for what I need when the kids leave the nest, which will be never........

in that case then
yes you can do that
you will have to format the c drive
and use updated drivers

make sure you have atleast a gig of ram
or it will run very slow

& fortmat it to ntsf (not fat). & just so you know, when you make it ntsf, you can't take it back to fat. i believe (but not sure) that means ... you can't ever take it back to win98.

you can take it back
but it's another format to do it

you would have to delete the partition table
and redo it
